Product Description
Product description of sapphire fiber
Sapphire is a material resistant to chemical corrosion and scratching, with a melting point of 2,072°C. MMI offers LHPG grade sapphire fibers with diameters ranging from 25 to 500 μm. Additionally, fibers with expanded ends through tapering are available. This is an important feature as the flexibility of the fiber varies inversely with the fourth power of the diameter (for example, a 100 μm fiber has 16 times the flexibility of a 200 μm fiber). Tapered fibers offer users high throughput capabilities without sacrificing flexibility in energy transmission and spectral applications. PTFE sheathing and/or connectors are available for fibers with diameters greater than 100 μm.
